Day 2- Year 7

The celebration of Math week continued on Monday the 12th of Oct with a Ted Talk conducted by Katie Ramanayaka- 12A , Vadim Rikanov- yr11, Rabab Alrubaie- 12D, and Deena Sandani-12D of KS4/5. The Ted talk was conducted through the virtual platform for the entire year 7 during the registration session. The objective of the ted talk was to emphasize the importance of learning math. They explained how math is linked to different streams of life, they shared their experience of and explained why they chose to continue with math. They also shared how math is important in various walks of life including various professions.

The celebration continued during math class with the debate on virtual versus regular learning. Debate is one of the academic activities that give students creative room to express what they feel. A group of students spoke about how the online learning sessions has helped them and how they were able to explore various ICT tools like Class Kick, pear deck, near pod etc which the teachers were using to make the classes interactive and how they feel safe to attend the classes at home in the current scenario even though they were missing the regular activities in the school, on the other hand 2nd group had arguments to support blended learning. They stressed on the points like how comfortable they are while doing face to face lessons as they could understand better during face to face lessons and clear their doubts with the teachers. They were also happy to meet their friends. They felt learning happens better while in school atmosphere as there would be fewer distractions. According to them there is no substitution to face to face learning. All the teams exhibited great oratorical skills. They put in tremendous hard work to showcase their skill set. The debaters displayed confidence in presenting their arguments before the class. The teams were well prepared and undoubtedly convinced the audience of their beliefs and views. The session was an enthralling experience for the speakers as well as the audience.
